Hong Kong Carnival Day

Our Hong Kong Carnival day has been well received from all at the Sharks.  Unfortunately the Dragons won't be bringing an U12's team so we will play a best of 3 challenge between the two U12 teams below.  If there are anymore U12's who would like to be part of the day please email sharksfc@ais.com.sg

Our coaches have divided up all names nominated and put into teams which have a coach and a nick name for the day. Please take note of which team your child is in.

We will confirm the draw in next week's newsletter but we will aim to start the day from 1pm using both the Junior school and Senior school ovals. We'll have the footy on the TV near the BBQ and our friends at Plonk will be looking after the catering on the day.

Look forward to see you all on the day.

Round Robin Update - 2014

Coming towards the end of the Round Robin tournament games, the enthusiasm of the kids continues to shine though!! We appreciate the strong participation and ongoing support of the parents.

4-5 grades:  Damian Davies

Around about 20 players took part in this week’s “Whites vs. Greens” game so we settled into the now familiar format of four X 12 minute quarters. This week the transitions out of defence were fantastic, with the link up play by hand and foot very impressive.  Much more discipline with the tackling, as we saw the number of illegal (usually high) tackles dropping way off.  As an umpire, I threw the ball up in the air a lot as the tackles often were so effective that the chance to dispose the ball was limited.  The boys are starting to go in very hard for the ball, clearly loving the physical nature of game play.  Nobody is taking a back seat.  The standard was so good this week that clapping from the crowd was often heard, and the coaches/umpires all gave the boys well deserved applause and recognition at the conclusion of the game.

Jamie was again a stand out with his performance in a variety of positions, but well done to Tom who was given two votes and Cody one vote for his persistence and goals up forward.

Last week of the 4/5’s as we prepare for the HK visit on 30 August.  As a reminder, a Presidents Medal will be awarded to the best on ground, along with a Best and Fairest for the season.

6+ grades: Dave Walden

Last week saw about 22 footballers turn out for our round robin. Unfortunately most of the year 9 boys went off to see Singapore V Juventus so we decided to split the players into 2 teams; white and green and suspend the round robin. Playing over 5 quarters (the boys couldn’t get enough footy over 4 and actually wanted to play a 6th quarter) we witnessed some hard fought contests and strong tackling.

Once again the improvement in skills was evident with good handballing and passing setting up chains of play that had the spectators cheering. In the end the white team ran out winners, but a strong comeback from the greens meant the result wasn’t decided until the last minute.

Best players included Kyle, Harvey, Seb, Jake, Ben, Remy, and Indigo.

Thanks to Cloughy, Tony and the other dads who helped out

Also it was sad to see 2 popular members of the Sharks play their last game on Saturday, and a big cheer and round of applause was given to James and Dominic.  On behalf of the Sharks, we wish you well in London and hope you continue to enjoy your football.

Finally I have updated the round robin ladder and as everyone can see it is very close, with the tigers enjoying a winning streak to rival their AFL counterparts.  Next week is the final week before the finals on the 30th August after the HK game, it is important everyone turns up to support their team.

The format for the finals will be as follows:

1st goes straight into the Grand Final

2nd v 3rd playoff to go into the Grand Final

Loser 2nd  v 3rd  plays shortened game against team 1 before GF

As a recap from last week the voting was awarded as follows:

There were 3 games and 3 votes per game thus:

2 votes each: Nick, Snowy and Kyle

1 vote each: Indigo, Remy, Jack McKnight
