Week 3 of our Games Tournament was a little disjointed due to the change of timing and location, but congratulations to the kids and coaches for adapting.

Game Time:  Murray Naismith

There were 44 kids, with yrs 4, 5 and 6+ playing together.  The 6+ kids dominated mostly, but all kids were involved trying to get in amongst it.  The bigger field gave the kids room to move and really opened up play.  A few kids showed incredible pace and dodging ability when they got the footy in their hands and some open field in front of them.

The bigger ground and muddy conditions would have been new to a lot of kids as most would not have experienced footy like this before.  The ball spent a lot of time on the deck, but the boys ground skills given the conditions, were pretty good.  A number of marks in front of goals added to the spectacle, along with set shots and goals on the run that kept the scoreboard ticking over.

As the game progressed, the crowd started to get more involved, especially at the Turf City Road end with the Sharks Dads "oohing" and "ahhing" along to some great work in front of goals as they celebrated their hard fought win over the Wombats!!

Big thanks to our goal umpires, especially the brave Dad who had to keep retrieving the footy from the scrub, clearly identified by the "Beware - Cobras" sign.

All in all, this was a great experience for our boys and a great reward for all the coaches who've put in so much time throughout the season, to see just how well the boys have developed to put on such a fine display of our great game.

Sharks Dads vs Wombats Match Report:  David Snow

After an outstanding campaign at the Bali Masters, the Sharks Dads needed the 4 weeks school holidays to recuperate in the lead up to the Annual Audo cup, in memory of our old mate Nick Auden who passed away from cancer late last year.

It was an extremely solid 2 week pre-season preparation leading up to the match so we knew we were going into the match a little under done along with an average age of 43 (excluding, young  Snowy, Jackson and Lauchy). All were extremely keen to expel the pent up anger from years gone by, but we came out of the blocks a little slow and were down by 9pts at quarter time. If it weren’t for the great work of the backline led by Hollers, Trev and Dave Walden we would have been a lot further behind.

The second quarter was a different story with the Sharks showing the hunger to be first to the ball and willing to instinctively dish off to first option. Royda had shed the effects from the night before to start coming into his own, while Hammo, New Matt and T-Rex Katsy were controlling the middle. Also the young pups Jack Snow (14), Jackson (14) and Lauchy (16) were showing a thing or two even though playing against men, super stuff boys! We controlled all but the final 5 minutes of the quarter and finished 7points up heading into the big break, which is indeed what we needed a big break!

Post the long break the Sharks came out continuing the focus of first to the ball and first option, but fell away mid quarter only to finish the premiership quarter 4 points down. Again the backline, along with Boof working all over the ground, kept us in the game.

The majority of the team were blowing very hard at 3 quarter time, but all committed to dig deep and replicate what was demonstrated in the 2nd quarter. In true Nick Auden spirit the will to win in the last quarter saw both teams fighting every contest and every minute of the quarter. The game got a little heated at times, but after Boof’s goal from 25m (he was telling everyone it was 60m into the breeze) the Sharks continued to control the game, in a fantastic team effort, to see us victors. No-one actually recalls the final score but the Sharks Dads won, which is all that matters and in turn, makes it 2-0 for the Sharks Dads in the Audo Cup.

Someone said after the game it doesn’t matter how old you are or what level of footy you play, it always feels so satisfying to win when you have had to work hard as a group for it – not a truer word said. Overall, a superb team effort so thanks to all the Sharks Dads for their involvement and efforts on the day. I’m sure there are a few bodies that are still sore but wouldn’t change it, very enjoyable and satisfying indeed!!

Special thanks to Tony Edmondstone and Orica for sponsoring the day along with the perpetual cup. Also thanks to Tony Davies for coordinating many of the logistics, a fantastic day was had by all.

HK visit to play the Sharks

After a great season of playing against international teams from Bali and visiting Bangkok, we have the opportunity to host the Hong Kong Dragons AFL team for an Auskick carnival on the 30th August at the AIS school. The day will commence at approximately 1pm with games played in the following age groups:

  • Under 8's - must be 8 years or under on 31st Dec 2014
  • Under 10's - must be 10 years or under on 31st Dec 2014
  • Under 12 - must be 12 years or under on 31st Dec 2014

The Dragons will be entering at least one team per age group and we would like to enter two per age group.  For those that have been on our tours previously this is a wonderful opportunity for the kids to play competitive AFL footy against other international teams.

More details will follow as they come to hand, however in order to secure your child's place on a team please RSVP your child's name and DOB to sharksfc@ais.com.sg by 16th August.

Grand Final Day Celebrations

We are in the process of finalising details for this “traditional” day of watching the season finale of the greatest game in the world.  Save the date, 27 September, with more details to follow.
