How good are our kids!

A super turnout for the first “league” games of our Lightning Tournaments.  26 kids, plenty of coaches and even some champagne on a picnic rug in a light breeze!  This was a great afternoon.  Don’t miss the quality football this week.

A fantastic tussle in our first game with the Makos on top, early thanks to Ashleigh Snow’s early goal, but were then unable to convert their chances.  Harvey Brown and Brayden Hope were providing plenty of drive and Dylan Mills was his normal courageous self.  In the second half, the Tigers hit back with Liam Phelan outstanding supported by the Hosking Boys and Xavier Keogh, but their own inaccuracy issues meant they only got out to a 1 point lead with <2 minutes to play.  The hard running of the Makos Luke Berridge was rewarded as they scraped two final points to get across the line by the smallest of margins.

In the second game, the Hammerheads came out all guns blazing, obviously itching to get their turn on the field.  Unlike the first game, every goal just flew straight through the big sticks with Lachie Pollock and Jamie Hope starring as the Hammerheads wrestled early control.  The Makos fought back bravely with Alex MacKenzie battling hard, with Luke Berridge slotting 2 goals and 1 to Harvey Brown but the Hammerheads had too much running in the end.

In the final game, the Tigers tried hard to stop the Hammerhead juggernaut and some of the play was fantastic.  Caleb Woodward’s courage all day was rewarded with an early goal whilst little Oli Woolley made the best tackle of the day, setting the standard for his team mates (and probably the Dads too).  But the running power of the Hammers was too strong and some of their link play was just scintillating – Jared Brown’s blistering pace down the middle or Jamie Hope going coast to coast after a run, give, receive, run goal sequence from the back pocket.  Vintage stuff! The Hammers coaches were thrilled by the efforts of young Harry Boye-Moller who took a cracking mark and goal amongst other courageous efforts.

Well done boys on some champagne footy.  Let’s have an even bigger crowd and more champagne picnics this weekend!

A reminder that warm-up will start at 3:30 Saturday, so please arrive in time to catch up with your team mates and coaches and be ready to go.  Those kids that were not there last week, please see the organisers or coaches to find out which team you are in.
