Improving the Skills

Now that we are getting into a routine, the coaches are observing how quickly the skills demonstrated by the kids are picking up.  Using our newly accredited coaching skills, the program continues to move along at great pace.

Calling All Year 1 Parents:

With the size of the Year 1 group, we are looking for more volunteer helpers in this timeslot. Given what we are trying to achieve, 1 helper per 4 kids is the ideal number we are looking for. We have around 4 groups of 10 kids for the skill rotations and you would have an accredited coach in charge of your group. We just need bodies to handball or kick to the kids and most importantly provide encouragement. The other coaches will run the drills. We do not need a regular commitment, just a week to week hand if you are around, although if you could come weekly that would be great! Please come and see me in the middle of the oval at the start of the session if you are able to help. Thanks very much. Dale.

And for younger kids in the gym:

Again, it was fantastic to have so many mums and dads assist on the day. I would like to remind parents, of both genders, to please contact me if they are able to assist on a regular basis for either the Pre-school or the Prep session, or even both. This will help with session planning and ensuring that everyone knows what they are doing on the day, before they get to training. Please contact me at ian_forbes@ais.com.sg and let me know your name and which session (Prep or Pre-school) you are able to assist in. You don’t need to know a lot about AFL, but controlling children would be of benefit, and there is always others there to assist. Session cards are given out on the day which give instructions on what we are doing, and I can email these to you the day before, so you have a heads-up. Organising coaches and people to assist tends to get a little difficult to do when we have already started the session and we are still looking for coaches. Plus, we can give you one of our white AFL Sharks coaching tops (if we don’t have your size, some have already been ordered). It would be great to have you on board on a more consistent basis.

Footy is not a boys game – bring down Mum!!

You may have seen Oscar O'Neill's (Grade 6+) mum, Dr Kristin O'Neill, in various editions of Expat Living magazine for her employer Camden Medical over the years. Here she is again for SSFC.
