After a brief recess for Chinese New Year, the kids were back running around at AIS last week.  As we continue to step up the game time for some age groups, the kids are clearly enjoying themselves!!   Another batch of uniforms were distributed, with the next lot expected in around two week’s time.

A reminder about our Hong Kong Footy Trip has been confirmed for the weekend of May 9/10. For those that have participated in these trips over the years, they are a great experience for the kids who get the opportunity to play real games against kids from other clubs in Asia. The Hong Kong Club are a well organised group who put on a fantastic carnival for kids. More details to follow. Please email expressions of interest to sharksfc@ais.com.sg

Our Melbourne Footy Trip has been confirmed. Play the main grid game at half time on Saturday June 20 at Etihad during the Western Bulldogs v Brisbane clash. Please email expressions of interest to sharksfc@ais.com.sg

From the Gym:

This week, AFL Auskick took a different form for the players of the U5 and U6 groups in the Big Gym. Upon entry the players and parents were confronted with a lot of gymnastics-type equipment set-up on one side of the gym and some big cones on the other. After we did some ball control drills the players were given the opportunity to ‘have a go’ on the equipment, after being shown what to do and a quick safety talk. The parents got involved and were fantastic with ensuring that the players participated in a safe, but enjoyable manner as they followed the obstacle course. There was a lot of climbing, jumping, balancing, crawling, running, crash-landing, rolling and we hadn’t even introduced the balls yet, but when we did, and things got a little more challenging, the players still loved it!

After the obstacle course, we took to doing some group work on the cones, focusing on movement and football skills, including: handballing, marking, gathering and some kicking (with the U6’s). As stated on Saturday, future sessions will become more specific around AFL skills, but what is hopefully a fun and enjoyable session. Over the past 4 sessions we have focused on body and ball orientation, spatial movement, gross motor skills, visual tracking and following instructions .

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteer coaches that assist with the program week in, week out. The sessions wouldn’t run as well as they do without you!

Coach Forby

From the Oval:

Slightly less numbers on a very hot day on the oval this week. Again, I want to thank the coaches for their efforts in the heat to help out our kids. It is challenging weather to be completing outside activities but again we had a fantastic ratio enabling kids to get plenty of touches of the ball. If you are watching, don’t be put off by the sea of yellow shirts, more bodies are welcome, particularly in the U/7 group,  and you do not have to be an expert.

The U/7 and U/9 group continued with their rotational groups focusing on the skills of the game. The U/9 group played a game after their skill rotations this week and had a great time. It was fantastic to see them put the skills that they have been learning and practising into a game. We will continue to do this as they progress through the season. The U/7 group will continue on the skill work with some fun games thrown in.

The older groups continued with some skill work followed by games. We had enough coaches and kids to have two teams play and one complete more skill development. We were also able to provide 'on ground' coaching in both age groups as well which was fantastic.

With the heat rising and the U/9 + groups partaking in more competitive work, please remember mouth-guards and plenty of water.

See you out on the oval!

Dale

A reminder that each Saturday during the Auskick season, the barbeque will be firing to ensure that the kids can get a sausage and a cold drink. Many hands make light work, so please drop us an email if you can help out during the season.
