We have had a run of good run with the weather of late and most groups are into games at this stage. I once again want to thank our parents who are out there every week helping out and giving us enviable coach:child ratios each week. This week is the final session before our trip to Hong Kong so we will ensure game time for each group this week to have the kids ready.

Pre School

Running, jumping, kicking, marking, handballing, silliness by coach Ian, and that’s just the warm up! The pre-schoolers continue to have a great time as they learn the basic skills of the game. We have had big numbers in the last few weeks and the kids like to show off their skills to Mum and Dad at the end of a session.

Prep/1

This group has a big, loyal band of parent helpers and these guys and girls have developed to the point where we can start to incorporate games into their session. As I have previously stated, it is very important for this age group to continue the skill development work. They love playing games so we can accommodate this as well. These guys will continue to have some game time to show off all of the skills that they have developed.

Year 2/3

‘The lightning group’ has had a good run of recent weather and has started playing games. It is fantastic to see the skills that they have developed on show in a game situation. The difference in basic skill levels since the start of the year is very noticeable and it is a credit to our tireless volunteers who are working on these skills each week.

Year 4/5

This group is right into the swing of games. The skill level of this group is markedly improved from the start of the year and their games have been very competitive and skillful. The group are really trying to put all their learning from the program into practise and it is great to see.

Year 6+

The veterans are playing some very spirited games of late, as well as continuing to develop their skills and knowledge of the game. I am looking forward to watching them next week as they play against ‘real’ opposition.

Thanks again everyone for your continued support of the kids and the program. We are very fortunate to be able to run the skills sessions that we do and have as many helpers as we do. I look forward to finishing off the semester in style in the coming 5 weeks.

Mothers’ Day game

We would love to see as many Mums as possible in gear and ready to have a kick this weekend. We will be having a Kids v Mums game in the last 10 minutes of every session to celebrate Mother’s Day and your involvement with your children at the Singapore Sharks Football Club.

Triva Night

  • A 2 year membership to the Hollandse Club where the proceeds are for the benefit of SSFC and members.
  • An unforgettable evening wine experience

If anyone has an interest to bid and cannot make the Trivia Night, please see one of the committee members or email us.

There will also be a few silent auction items. As a reminder, there are also one-year term memberships to Fitness First available. Again please see the committee or send us an email.

Sponsors day at AIS

The SSFC are indebted to the support of our sponsors and it was great to see the kids (& dads) eagerly putting Rocktape on at training last Saturday, courtesy of Calvin Goh from MyPhysio. Thanks also to Jason Pope from the Dallas Restaurant and Bar / The Rotisserie and the team at NAB for coming down to training as well. Sam Davies, from Holiday Inn Atrium Hotel, along with Jason, is there most weeks and is well known by most of us.

Hong Kong and Melbourne tour

Next week is the eagerly awaited Hong Kong trip. There are 30 kids confirmed ranging in ages from 5 to 13, great numbers for our inaugural tour. The Melbourne tour is also progressing well and we have already reached out to those members who had previously expressed an interest in attending. A run on the ground at half time followed by a quick back of house tour for the kids has all the ingredients of a great night. The AFL has been generous in the allocation of tickets to us for this game - Hawthorn vs West Coast Eagles - at Etihad Stadium on Friday June 21. A special thanks to Nick Carracher for coordinating this trip. Please see one of the committee or email sharksfc@ais.com.sg for more information or to confirm places. A game on Sunday, June 22 against Ivanhoe is also in the pipeline.

Footy Tipping

We have four tipsters at the top of the Sharks footy tipping .... Sam the Boss, Davis W, Archi & last year’s winner Zac Batagol, all on 44 pts. Congratulations to Stevie G for being the top tipster for round 6.  He wins a $50 voucher to either the Dallas Bar or Rotisserie.  Remember, tips in by start of first game.
