Thank you to all the parents for your help in taking the drills each week and your tremendous support from the side lines with our junior footballers. As we head into a very busy second half of the season this support is greatly appreciated by all the coaches. Last week many were away attending the Wombats 20 year reunion celebrations – and looking forward we will have many coaches and parents away for the Hong Kong tour on May 18 and the Bali Masters on June 8, so all contributions are welcomed. Thank you also to Nicholas Coulter and Darren Thomas for taking photos of the kids and sharing them with us – you may have noticed the change on the front page of the website.

Sponsors Day

At training this week we will have many of our sponsors attending, so please do support them where you can. Our sponsors support our club and by doing so the Singapore Sharks Football Club is by far the best value for money club in Singapore for our kids - and we have strong objectives to remain the best value for money club.

MyPhysio especially are making a huge effort so please be sure to ARRIVE EARLY so your kids can get taped for training and parents can also learn about different taping methods.

They are doing the following:

  • Myphysio will be offering to tape up all interested kids in groovy Kinesiotape (free of charge) should love this
  • Learn about when to use Kinesiotape vs Athletic tape
  • On the spot Q & A with Myphysio therapist

Sharks vs Wombats

The Sharks Dads took on the Wombats Legends in their first hit out of the year last Saturday at Dempsey as part of the Wombats 20th anniversary celebrations. The ground conditions would have bought back memories for most of the dads - wet and slippery, but minus the cold. What was clear right from the start was the passion for the game and the skills weren't entirely lost with some great contested marks, excellent kicking and strong tackling made for a wonderful spectacle. The Sharks got off to a great start kicking the first 4 goals and really dominated the first quarter. Led by Dale Carmody (Boof) in the ruck and Sammy Davies and George Cooper, the Sharks looked as though they might run away with the game. That all changed in the second quarter as the Wombats clawed their way back into the game to get within a kick at the half-time siren. The Sharks again took the ascendancy in third quarter with Boof kicking a great goal. The Sharks were back! It was a tight and tough contest right to the end with the Sharks having a chance to get ahead on the last kick of the day. Unfortunately it was touched on the goal line and Wisey, while trying to shepherd the ball through, came down hard on his wrist and took one for the team. A bad break the result of that. All the best to Wisey for a speedy recovery. In the end a great game with the Sharks just missing out on victory.

Whilst the dads went down narrowly, it was still a great first hit out of the year and we look forward to our next games - Bali Masters 9 a-side where a draw of 20 teams from around Asia takes place on June 7 & 8 and the big game 18 aside game v's The Wombats in July.

Hong Kong and Melbourne tour

There are only two weeks until the Hong Kong trip on May 18. There are 30 kids confirmed ranging in ages from 5 to 13, great numbers for our inaugural tour. The Melbourne tour is also taking shape and we have already reached out to those members who expressed an interest in attending. A run on the ground at half time followed by a quick back of house tour for the kids has all the ingredients of a great night. The AFL has been generous in the allocation of tickets to us for this game - Hawthorn vs West Coast Eagles - at Etihad Stadium on Friday June 21. A special thanks to Nick Carracher for coordinating this trip. Please see one of the committee or email for more information or to confirm places.

Trivia Night

Hopefully you would have seen the very generous offer from the Hollandse Club offering all SSFC members a one-month free trial leading up to our Trivia Night on Saturday May 11. A lot of members have already taken advantage of this which is superb.

Please contact a committee member if you would like to attend the Trivia Night as places are very limited. The Trivia Night starts at 7pm.

On the night we will be auctioning off a number of items including:

  • A 3 day 2 night trip to Phuket including flights and a 5 star accommodation package for 2 adults and 2 kids.
  • Exclusive and not available to the public an opening night package to Phantom of the Opera
  • A signed and framed premiership winning team jumper signed by two time Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes
  • A 2 year membership to the Hollandse Club where the proceeds are for the benefit of SSFC and members.
  • An unforgettable evening wine experience

If anyone has an interest to bid and cannot make the Trivia Night, please see one of the committee members or email us.

There will also be a few silent auction items. As a reminder, there are also one-year term memberships to Fitness First available. Again please see the committee or send us an email.

Sharks Footy Tipping

This week’s $50 Dallas Bar/Rotisserie voucher goes to Johnny Vee. Johnny correctly tipped all round 5 winners. He tipped Essendon to win and was 13pts off the winning margin on Anzac Day. It’s still tight at the top with David W, Sam the Boss, Zac Batagol & Archi on top with 35pts, but there's still a long way to go. Remember, tips in by the bounce of the first game!

There are still a few people with money outstanding, please see Nick, Brandon or Dennis with your $20.

Dads Members

The club is looking for a volunteer to compile a membership booklet for the dads who train at 6pm. This is not an overly complex task, just one that requires presentation and formatting skills – oh and following up with some very busy dads to get the data. If you are interested (can be more than one person absolutely) please email us at We would look to having this completed over next two to three weeks if possible.
